As Nigeria continues to make its mark on the global stage, we ask: How is African style reshaping the world’s definition of fashion? Our answer lies within these pages.

Hello

Meet Aunty Brenda

Dearest Aunty Brenda,

My meddling Mother-in-Law has brought my past back to life to hunt me. My scar has become a fresh wound. Please help me understand how to navigate these treacherous waters.

My husband and I got married twenty years ago. For the first five years of our union, I could not get pregnant. I was miserable. My misery was affecting my husband more than it was affecting me. With the burden of barrenness, I inherited a meddlesome mother-in-law. Every time she’d speak with my husband, she will end with “greet your roommate ooo”. She did everything to belittle me. This caused more pain for my husband and I. In the fourth year of our marriage, we had had enough. My husband and I successfully worked to be transferred by our various places of work to a city much further away from family and friends. The only person that moved with us was our housemaid.
